Akmal and The Umbilical Brothers will be joining some of Australia’s top comedians to raise money for Suicide Provention Australia in their annual “No Laughing Matter Comedy Gala”
The No Laughing Matter comedy gala aims to raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention in Australia and support Australia’s only national suicide prevention advocate; Suicide Prevention Australia!
Suicide is a real and often hidden problem in Australia. We lose approximately 2,500 lives each year to suicide, making it the 14th highest cause of death - more than the national road toll and skin cancer. Our aim is to help bring suicide out of the darkness, destroy the taboo and stigma surrounding suicide so it can be discussed and properly understood.
In the last ten years we have seen breast cancer and prostate cancer come out of the darkness and less Australian’s are dying as a result of these diseases than everbefore, it’s time now for suicide prevention to become a topic of national discussion.
The No Laughing Gala is on at The Enmore Theatre on Wednesday June 20, 2012
